Jamaica Awareness Association of California, Inc. (JAAC), is non-profit, charitable organization formed in July 1987 and based in Los Angeles, California. As Jamaicans living abroad, JAAC is dedicated to the advancement of the health and educational systems both locally and in Jamaica. We pursue our mission through a program of scholarships, medical and educational service in Los Angeles and Jamaica, fund raising activities, and community service. Over the years, JAAC has awarded scholarships to students about to enter high school in Jamaica and donated computer labs to various elementary schools. The medical outreach program to rural Jamaica is in its 13th year. The success of the laparoscopic training seminar and preceptorship program at Annotto Bay Hospital is one of JAAC’s most successful and renowned projects to date.
The organization funds their projects through sponsorships and fundraising events. For the past 20+ years the Los Angeles community has come to anticipate the largest fundraising event in early November with much excitement. This year, the fundraising banquet will take place in November at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott – 5855 West Century Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90045. The event promises to bring together approximately 500 guests in the local Caribbean community. T
In July 2012, JAAC celebrated 25 years of working in underserved communities. The membership is growing and the organization is stronger than ever. The executive board is committed to continue and improve upon the goals and activities of JAAC. We look forward to the strong community support that we have enjoyed for over 24 years.
